Meeting Scheduled for Monday July 16th!

Dear Friends:

On Monday July 16, starting at 5:30 p.m. with presentation to begin promptly at 5:45 p.m., the Friends are holding a special meeting* to discuss our upcoming major event Paint the Library 2012!, the First Mirror Lake Library Plein Air Painting Event, immediately followed by the Plein Air Exhibition and Sales Gala. The event is scheduled for Saturday Oct 20, 2012, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. (*Light refreshments will be served)

Frankly, this meeting is to find out who among our membership will volunteer for the event and planning activities. I will present to you a thorough vetting of the event parameters and event budget, and see who is in. I hope to see you all there, or hear from you separately of your interest in volunteering for this event.

We anticipate hosting up to 50 participating artists and estimate managing a potential crowd of 500-1000 spectators and guests who will be drawn to the event due to our personal invitation, our excellent marketing strategy, and great event development activities, which includes perfect public transportation that will deliver folks right to the library throughout the day. After reimbursing all expenditures, we are estimating a $10,000 profit from the event, which will help cover some of our major goals to support the library.

The event will be a competition; artists may create up to five works for exhibition and sale, but only two pieces for judging. We will present an Artists’ Award: Best of Show ($200), People’s Choice Award ($150), and the Friends Award ($100). These are purchase awards, to which we will also own the copyright rights so we can use them for marketing purposes.

Artists will have between 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. sharp to complete their works using only oil, acrylic, water color, or pastel mediums. Starting promptly at 3:30pm we will host the Plein Air Exhibition and Sales Gala in the Mirror Lake Ballroom, which is directly across the street from the library.

So dear Friends, you probably see we need your help to make it a reality, because it will take a slew of volunteers to handle the various tasks that will go on throughout the day, as well as the pre-event planning activities and tasks.
