The Annual Gathering of the Friends meeting was held on Monday February 11, 2013 with a delightful turnout of Friends new and old.
The first order of business was election of officers. The slate of officers was presented by the nominating committee and included mostly the current board; however, sadly we had to bid farewell to outgoing treasurer Jaime Abbess but glady we welcomed aboard new treasurer Rebecca Soebbing.
The slate of officers presented were: Wayne Finley, President; Wendy Bennett, Vice President; Linda Sagese, Secretary; and Rebecca Soebbing, Treasurer. By a show of hands from members present the slate of officers was approved.
Jaime Abbess was a founding member of the Friends and has always been an active and engaged member. She stepped into the role of treasurer at the Annual Gathering of Friends in Feb 2012 and helped shepherd our group through the creation of our own banking account and was our social media wiz, creating our blog and Facebook accounts. Her warm demeanor and kind smile was always a welcome addition, and she helped us in many ways, even dragging her family into the mix to volunteer their assistance at our events. Due to an awesome promotion and her need to pursue some personal projects needing more of her time, she felt she needed to step down so that another Friend might provide more focused attention to the details of keeping our books. THANK YOU JAIME, we’ll miss you but know you are always welcome back!
And thanks to those Friends who continue to rise to the occassion to help make the Friends a group of engaged and motivated library patrons! The work you do on behalf of Mirror Lake Library is sincerely appreciated!
Lastly, welcome aboard Rebecca! Rebecca and her husband John found the Friends in March 2012 and became immediate lifelong members. She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in finance and budgeting, and we are looking forward to her tackling a few major hurdles still needing to be handled, such as helping us craft our annual budget and pursuing our 501(c)(3) designation. What a great asset she will be.
It was very nice to see the many old Friends present as well as new attendees who became Friends at the gathering, and every one came with such good ideas of activities we could pursue we already have a full plate for the upcoming year. Look for them as the months go by.
