2014 Annual Meeting

If you missed the 2014 Annual Meeting of the Friends of Mirror Lake Library, you can read about it here.

The new board:
Wayne Finley, President
Linda Sagese, Vice-President
OPEN, Secretary
Monika Finley, Treasurer
Diane Drutowski, Communications Director
Wendy Bennett, Director
Suzanne Chesser, Director

The bylaws were updated
under the supervision of Nicole Nate, who is working on our application for exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the IRS code.  The corrections clarified that the purpose of Friends is charitable and educational, and included other minor changes.

Upcoming events for 2014 will include “An Evening With Author Lynn Waddell” on February 10, a spring picnic, the annual summer book sale (tentative date Saturday, June 7), and a “Photograph the Library” event.

We are also looking ahead to the 100th anniversary of the Mirror Lake Library in 2015.

A priority in 2014 will be to contribute to the computer labs, which are the busiest in the city.

Meetings of the Friends are held the first Wednesday of each month, except for holidays. The meetings are held in the third floor meeting room of the Mirror Lake Library, 280 5th Street North, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.  Everyone is welcome to attend and participate.

FOMLL 2013 Accomplishments – Dessert in the Stacks, Nov 2013

In November 2013 the Friends joined the library in hosting “Dessert in the Stacks,” part of a National Endowment for the Humanities grant introducing our community to perspectives on the people, places, histories, beliefs, and cultures of Muslims in the United States and around the world. Over 50 people came out on a Saturday afternoon and enjoyed a viewing of Mirror on the Invisible World about Muslim art and culture and then enjoyed authentic Muslim desserts and strong coffee. On display were prayer rugs, Saudi coffee urns, and popular contemporary music.
